Cocoon Wins At Design While Making Homes Safer
The British founders of Cocoon realized that home security was too complicated and expensive—most people in the UK and the US didn’t bother with it. So they set out to make a home security system that everyone could use. Their compact device Cocoon detects infrasonic sound waves that humans can’t hear, keeping homes safe without false alarms. Backers were inspired by this new vision of simple home security, so Cocoon was able to raise $249,860. Cocoons are now sold on Amazon and have made it to 55 countries. Tens Finds An Enthusiastic Investor
These young British entrepreneurs had the idea to create sunglasses that allow you to see the world through an uplifting, colored filter. The Tens team raised more than £370,000 ($453,000) from 9,300 backers and have shipped to more than 100 countries. Things got even more exciting when business magnate Richard Branson tried a pair on his kite-surfing trip to Necker Island. Soundbrenner Shakes Up The Music Industry
From Germany, the Soundbrenner is a vibrating metronome which makes it easier for musicians to stay on beat. The team has raised more than $230,000 and shipped to thousands of people in more than 60 countries. They’ve won Best in Show at the National Association of Music Merchants (the largest music trade show in the world), opened offices in Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Berlin, and partnered with some of the largest music retailers in the business. cuddle + kind dolls feed over 60,000 children
cuddle + kind is a social endeavor founded by Jennifer and Derek Woodgate, parents of three young children in Milton, Ontario. Their goal is to feed 1 million meals each year to children in need, providing the key nutrition necessary for children’s brains to develop fully, help fight disease and reach their full potential. The purchase of each of their handmade dolls helps feed 10 children worldwide. Since the campaign launched in September 2015, cuddle + kind smashed through their original goal of $25,000, raising over $446k and providing 62,543 meals to children in need in just 6 weeks. Misfit Shine Changes the Game for Wearables
Sonny Vu, CEO of Misfit Wearables launched a new type of activity tracker, the Misfit Shine, and raised nearly $850,000 on Indiegogo. After using the platform to gain data and demonstrate value in the market, the Misfit Shine was delivered in August 2013 and the company also went on to raise $15.2 million in Series B funding, followed by a $40 million round in December 2014. The product can now be found at Best Buy stores, Target stores and Apple Stores across the country, and has partnered with Beddit and Victoria’s Secret.

After becoming the most funded film on Indiegogo raising $2.48 million, Rooster Teeth’s “Lazer Team” is now in production and slated for a highly-anticipated Spring 2015 release. Fullscreen, a massive YouTube network of more than 50,000 video creators, has also since acquired rooster Teeth.

Roger Ebert Documentary Makes History
Steve James and Kartemquin Films raised $153,875 on Indiegogo to bring Life Itself, a film about the late film critic Roger Ebert, to the world. In January 2014, the film premiered simultaneously at the Sundance Film Festival and in the homes of Indiegogo funders, livestreaming through their computers, in a first for the Sundance Institute and the film industry. Today, the film has been released in theaters across the country and has been nominated for a Critic’s Choice Movie Award.

Jake Kassan and the MVMT watch team started their campaign on Indiegogo to bring a new stylish and affordable watch to the public. After being so successful in their first campaign, exceeding their goal by 1,466% to raise $219,898, the company began a second one, raising another $71,409. After shipping to nearly 3,000 contributors, MVMT watches are now in 30 Urban Outfitters stores across the US and Canada and the founders recently won Shopify’s Build A Business contest.

Good Spread Peanut Butter Feeds Thousands
Mark Slagle and Alex Cox, entrepreneurs from Nashville, Tennessee, raised $69,518 on Indiegogo to take their peanut butter company, Good Spread, to the next level and produce enough for a six-month run. After mailing the final product to nearly 600 people, Slagle and Cox launched a second campaign and is now distributed by Harris Teeter, a large chain of 215 grocery stores. The peanut butter has also enabled the socially-conscious company to provide more than 33,000 packets of food to malnourished children in Central Africa.

Writer and Director Justin Simien raised more than $40,000 on Indiegogo to create the trailer for Dear White People, a film on race relations in America. The film premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and has become the highest grossing crowdfunded box office hit in history.

With contributions and matches from Mark Zuckerberg, John Doerr, Reid Hoffman and more, the organization raised more than $5 million making the campaign Indiegogo’s most funded of all time.

Freddie Wong and his production company RocketJump launched their third crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to tap into a global audience. The team raised nearly $900,000 to release Season 3 of the webseries Video Game High School and RocketJump has since partnered with Lionsgate.

Julie and Scott Brusaw, a small-town couple from Sagle, Idaho, launched a campaign to bring their invention of solar roadways, pavement that generates power, to the limelight. The two doubled their goal of $1 million and even received an invitation to the 2014 White House Maker Faire.

When Don Cheadle began creating his latest film, a Miles Davis biopic, he used Indiegogo to connect directly with his fans and raised more than $340,000. Cheadle has wrapped the film in Cincinnati and will now prepare the finished film for the festival circuit, as well as find a distributor.

The film screened at nearly a dozen film festivals and was theatrically released in Canada. The team has run another campaign for their second film, raising nearly $123,000.

Google Acquires Lift Labs
Through their Indiegogo campaign, Lift Labs raised and matched funds to gift over 120 Liftware devices to the National Parkinson’s Foundation and Essential Tremor Foundation. In September 2014, Google acquired Lift Labs to join Google’s Life Sciences, a division of Google X that focuses on long-term projects.

Doniece Sandoval launched an Indiegogo campaign to transform San Francisco’s decommissioned city buses into showers for the homeless.
